In August 2019, we went on a team sailing day. Taxis were waiting for us at 8am outside our office in Weybridge and from there, we made our way to Southampton. We were all very excited to arrive at the boat which was a luxury £2m sailing yacht, the MOODY 66 – ‘ODILE’, just as the sun was starting to shine! We got on board the yatch and enjoyed a breakfast of croissants, smoked salmon and fruit salad. Once breakfast was finished we had a chat with the sailor and set sail around the Solent.
We all took turns sailing the yatch, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The sailors were really helpful in teaching us tricks to keep the yatch steady and guided us round the Solent to our next destination. In the afternoon the drinks were flowing and the sun was still out (we were very lucky with the weather).
We finally arrived and docked just outside the Yatch Club for some well earned lunch. The Yatch Club was full of interesting decoration, like the flags on the ceiling of each competitor in the famous boat races. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were set to host the inaugural regatta The King’s Cup and the plan was to hopefully see the Royals racing! However, due to the weather forecast being slightly too windy and wet, this didn’t go ahead. Nonetheless, it was probably a positive that this didn’t happen, as we found out that a few of Team Engage aren’t born sailors!
After lunch we got back on board the boat, left the Isle of Wight and headed back to Southampton. As we were on our way back we enjoyed some scones and afternoon tea. The boys decided it would be a good idea to stand at the very front of the boat to get the best view! Little did they know how soaked they were about to get as we hit a wave! As we arrived back at Southampton and had dried off, we decided to make our way into the Southampton harbour, which was full of restaurants and bars. We got in taxis and headed to the Pitcher and Piano to start with for some drinks. We then made our way to Banana Wharf for dinner to round off a great day!

“The sailing day was so much fun! It was a great team building day where we could get to know each other better away from the office and totally just relax and enjoy ourselves. I was still quite new to the company at the time so it was lovely to spend that time with my colleagues (and test our trust in each other as we took turns steering the boat). Everyone had a fantastic time and we were very appreciative of our Managing Director, Nick, for taking us.”
