Wine tasting – Away Days

In November 2016, we went to Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. Despite it being winter, we went on a lovely, sunny day. It isn’t far from the office, so after a short car journey we had arrived. We made our way to the restaurant and had lunch. The restaurant we sat in was overlooking the 265 acre vineyard and was really picturesque. We enjoyed the most spectacular views from the restaurant, overlooking Box Hill and the North Downs.

After lunch, we were then introduced to Steve, our private guide for the day. We all went in Steve’s van around the whole estate. We got to look at the grounds, the family house and then we learnt a lot about how wine is made (although there weren’t many grapes in November!)

We then stopped for a glass of champagne, that was, of course, Denbie’s own! After this, we headed back to see the process of how the grapes are then transformed into their award winning wine. We all found it really interesting as it’s nice to know exactly where your drink comes from.

To finish our private tour, we had a wine-tasting event in the wine cellars themselves. For a lot of us, this was our favourite part of the trip! We left feeling like wine experts (and slightly tipsy).
